Questions

What to settle before you write

I was served with a lawsuit. How fast do I need to act?

Quickly. The time to answer is printed on the papers or set by the court rules, and it is short. Send the papers the day you get them.

Do you represent plaintiffs or defendants?

Both. The first conversation covers which side you are on and what that means for strategy and cost.

Will my case go to trial?

Probably not. Most civil cases settle. Caspian prepares each one as if it will be tried, because that preparation is what makes a fair settlement possible.

How long does a lawsuit take?

From several months to a few years. Court schedules and the other side set much of the pace, and Caspian will tell you what to expect in your case.

What does it cost to talk first?

The office will tell you before you book whether the first conversation has a fee. Fees and costs for the case itself are set out in writing before you sign.

What should I bring to a first conversation?

The complaint and summons if you were sued, the contract or policy, the key letters and emails, and a list of dates.

Can you take a case outside Broward County?

Sometimes. Say where the case is filed or would be filed and the office will tell you if it is a fit.

What if I cannot afford a lawyer for the whole case?

Say so when you write. Some work can be done in defined steps, and the office can tell you when another lawyer or a legal aid group is the better route.
