Matters

A signed agreement, and one side that stopped keeping it

Most business disputes start with a document. Caspian reads yours first, then tells you what it lets you do.

A demand letter sometimes settles a case, and sometimes it only starts the clock. Before any filing you will hear the strongest version of the other side, what the case could cost to carry through trial, and which steps are worth taking.

The firm acts for the business that brings the claim and the business that has to answer it.

What the work covers

Disputes between two parties who signed

  • Unpaid invoices and breach

Work was done or goods were delivered, and the money never arrived. Or the reverse: you are the one being sued for it.

  • Owners and partners

A buy-out that stalled, books one side cannot see, a partner who acts alone.

  • Vendors and customers

Supply terms ignored, deposits kept, a service that was never finished.

  • Restrictive covenants

Non-compete and non-solicit claims, brought or defended.

  • Defending a claim

Answering a complaint on time, and deciding early between a counterclaim and a settlement.

  • Collecting a judgment

A win on paper still has to be paid; the post-judgment steps are part of the case.

Questions about business disputes

Should I send a demand letter first?

Often, yes. A clear letter can settle the matter or show a judge you tried. Some situations call for filing first, such as a deadline close to running out, and Caspian will tell you which yours is.

Can a contract dispute be settled without a trial?

Most are. Settlement can happen at any point, from the first letter to the morning of trial. Preparing as if there will be a trial is what makes a good settlement possible.

I was served. What do I do first?

Note the date you were served and contact a lawyer right away: the time to answer a complaint is short, and missing it can cost you the case.

Have a contract that is no longer being honored?

Send a short summary and the date of anything coming up.
